Announcement: Open Science Day Reprohack

This ReproHack will take place in Mannheim on October 11th and is open for all researchers which are interested in reproducibility and wants to have some hands-on experience. Performed by Anna Krystalli as one of the co-founders of ReproHacks, Joel Nitta and Camille Landesvatter support the event with invited talks.

Aim is to bring researchers together to reproduce publicly available research papers with associated data. The results on reproducibility, transparency and reusability will be discussed and feedback to the authors will be prepared.

Independently of participation, your online available articles/preprints with open data/code can be submitted for ReproHack here (after login/registration).

Workshop on Big Data Analyses and New Developments in Research Data Centres (RDC)

We are very happy to announce the call for papers of the joint workshop of IAB, ifo, and ZEW as well as the associated research data centres IAB-FDZ, EBDC (ifo), and ZEW-FDZ including BERD@NFDI at 24./25. November in Mannheim. The submission deadline of papers and extended abstracts in English and German is the 16th of September 2022.

We look forward to contributions from all areas of empirical economic research with a focus on big data analysis of unstructured data, measurement data and research data that are created by linking administrative and/or survey data using machine learning algorithms. BERD@NFDI Scholarship Recipients: Nino Petriashvili

Nini Petriashvili, comes from Georgia, Tbilisi and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Manheim. She is a junior researcher at MZES, The Mannheim Center for European Social Research, where she examines East-West migration,
as well as the economic consequences and attitudes towards migrants. Before coming to Mannheim, she completed a master’s degree in political science at the CEU, Central European University, in Budapest. In terms of content, she is interested in political communication and election studies, how politicians use social media to influence voters and what effects fake news has on discourse With the GESIS summer school course “Data Science Techniques for Survey Researchers” she was able to acquire skills to be able to carry out her research on the topics successfully. Being particularly interested in text analysis and tools for scraping and analyzing big data, the course offered her the opportunity to improve her understanding and develop her practical skills.

BERD@NFDI Scholarship Recipients: Anja Heine

Anja Heine is an employee in a governmental statistics department and a part-time student at FernUniversität in Hagen, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in Political Science. She enjoys working with all kinds of data day to day and is very thankful to be provided with the opportunity to join GESIS Summerschool course Data Science Techniques for Survey Researchers funded by BERD@NFDI. She is happy to apply this course’s takeaways to a small-scale research project for her master thesis.

BERD@NFDI Scholarship Recipients: Berfin Çakın

Berfin Çakın is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Istanbul Medeniyet University. She was a visiting doctoral student at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Her research interests lie in the fields of emotions, ontological insecurity and equality issues. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis entitled “Ontological Insecurities and Gendered Political Space in Malaysia and Turkey”. Her work has been published in the Journals Democratization, Political Studies Review, and Politics and the Life Science. She is highly motivated in the Data Science Techniques for Survey Researchers course gain hands-on experience with R+ to support their research on emotions versus gender politics and Methodologically optimize attitudes towards gender equality.
