Call for Papers: First Workshop on Bridging NLP and Public Opinion Research (NLPOR)
October 10, 2025 | Montreal, Canada | co-located with COLM 2025

We are pleased to announce the First Workshop on Bridging NLP and Public Opinion Research (NLPOR) – a new interdisciplinary forum exploring the powerful connections between Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Public Opinion Research (POR).
Workshop Focus:
As Large Language Models (LLMs) and data-centric AI advance, they increasingly benefit from the rigorous, human-grounded practices of public opinion research. POR provides decades of experience in survey design, sampling, and bias mitigation – critical insights for improving and evaluating NLP systems. Conversely, NLP can support POR through tools for analyzing open-ended responses, imputing or generating data, and designing more adaptive surveys.
Topics of Interest (including but not limited to):
- High-Quality Data: Data-centric NLP/AI, sampling, annotation design, bias, fairness, and data quality.
- LLM Evaluation: Human/hybrid evaluation, ethics, behavioral testing, interpretability, and trust.
- LLMs in POR: Using LLMs for survey design, response analysis, synthetic data, and imputation.
- Training & Alignment: Tuning models to reflect diverse opinions and values.
Submission Deadline: June 23, 2025
